It’s times like today that I sit and wonder about my future. I have grown, or nearly-grown, children and aging parents. I am an only-child, and feel like the fulcrum of my family; gently balancing the parent/child universe. What does my future look like and how am I going to reach those goals? All the planning in the world is not going to prepare me for the unknown. My parents could become ill. My children could need emotional and/or financial support from me when I least expect it. I may be busy with my own life and these sudden changes may throw my world into a tizzy.
Planning for an uncertain future is part of being a grown up. We have to plan for the worst and hope for the best. We cannot see what this world has in store for us, so we have to stay the course and keep pressing forward. This holds true in family matters as well as financial matters. It’s not easy to do it alone, it’s always better to have a partner along the way so that we have someone we can discuss our fears and our hopes with.
As a financial advisor, I often find myself in conversation with clients about their hopes, dreams and expectations. Although we can never see the future, we can lay out a plan and follow that plan with the future in mind. Having someone to talk with through the uncertain times, and knowing that they have your best interests at heart, is crucial in finding peace of mind. Planning for the future with my clients so that they can live life to the fullest, with the least amount of anxiety is my goal.
